About us

The Garden Club was founded by Matty-B and Bexy. Friends since high school, Matty always dreamed of being a starving writer and Bexy a starving artist in Manhattan. Now they are starving in Manhattan but via finance and law. At least half of it worked out as planned…

Matty has worked as a journalist, legislative lackey, administrative assistant, analyst in finance, and twice in the ice cream scooping industry.  Can somebody please employ her?

Bexy has a law degree and passed the New York and New Jersey Bar exams.  However, she is going back to school for her MPA because if you’re not collecting unemployment checks, you might as well collect degrees!

Aline, ever the gregarious Brazilian, was the #1 social coordinator for happy hour for the Emerging Markets desk at Lehman. She is always happy and nice and lovely. She is up to something fun almost every Manhattan night and has a really great singing voice. Trained as a lawyer in Brazil, she is currently looking for a job that can afford her. She is also singing at my wedding. Want to come?

Emo is Matty’s best friend from college. Though they had the same major, Emo was far smarter and ended up at a top 5 law school. Despite being gorgeous and brilliant, she got laid off not even two years into working at a top firm. Proof the world is just not fair! But she’s getting married this summer so she is enjoying the free time more than the rest of us.

Special K used to work with Matty back when she had two jobs as opposed to her current 0. He has worked in marketing, film, and other interesting and creative pursuits but has recently been spending a lot of time with other people’s pets.  But his real full time job is being awesome and breaking the hearts of pretty, young women.

P- who has no nickname yet- has managed to mostly avoid work for a few years now, even when the economy was good. He is in grad school which explains most of it. He really should be working as a stand up comic as we learned during those 5 tightly packed hours in the car back from Vermont. Yay P.
